The Tara brooch design is based on the discovery of an artifact known as the "Tara Brooch". The actual artifact is a brooch made in 700AD and features goldsmith and metal work of spectacular delicacy and intricacy. The unique aspect of this brooch is that it appears to be an early example of pseudo-penannular jewelry, which means that while it was crafted to look functional, it was a purely decorative piece.
